Frequently Asked Questions
What is JGrads?
JGrads St. Louis is a hub for Jewish graduate students and their peers. We host Shabbat dinners, social events, business networking, learning, and holiday experiences. We are a local self-supporting entity thanks to our generous donors and sponsors.
Do I have to be “religious” to join?
Not at all. Whether you grew up Reform, Conservative, “just Jewish,” or you’re reconnecting now — you’re welcome here at your pace.
Who comes to JGrads events?
Young Jews in grad school or recently graduated. Some come for the social, some for the depth — most for both.
I’m new and don’t know anyone — is that weird?
Not at all. Most people show up knowing nobody at first — and leave with new friends. Our events are built for that.
What kinds of events do you host?
- Shabbat Dinners: Not your average Friday night. Think soulful atmosphere, delicious food, and real conversation.
- Happy Hours & Socials: A chance to unwind, meet new people, and grow your circle.
- Learning Opportunities: Courses, classes, and discussions that explore Judaism’s wisdom for real life.
- Holiday Celebrations: From majestic Seders to Purim parties — we know how to celebrate.
- JBros and JGals: Sometimes we all need an event just for the guys and just for the girls.
Is there a membership fee?
No — select events are ticketed individually, but most are free thanks to supporters. If you want to fuel the mission, you can join the
Chai Partners Club.
How do I get involved beyond just attending?
We love when people take ownership! You can:
- Join our leadership board to help shape JGrads future.
- Partner with us as a donor or sponsor.
Where do events take place?
Most events are in UCity or the Central West End. You’ll always get the address when you RSVP.
